🔻"The Just God and the Human Moral Agent According to Muslim Theologians," Lec01
speaker: Dr. Hassan Ansari
Feb 24, 2026

🟥 Lecture in Persian. closed captions (CC) and auto-translate are available on our channel.

Summary:
In this session, we discussed general concepts concerning the topic of justice, as well as the theologians’ understanding of God’s justice. We then continued with a discussion on the subject of moral responsibility (taklīf) and the morally responsible human being — that is, the human moral agent — from the perspective of theologians.

Within this same framework, we examined reason and its definition according to theologians, and whether moral values, from the standpoint of reason and human understanding, correspond to objective reality or are merely rational constructs. Finally, we asked: Is it possible to speak of God’s morality?

Ramadan Event, The Nights of Qadr 🕒 March 8, 10 & 12, 2026 | 6:45-11:00 PM 📍MIT Student Center Speaker: Dr. Sadik Kassim Lecture: "Bread, Dates, Coffee and the Nights of Qadr" https://sites.mit.edu/zekrmit/ @zekrMIT
Abstract:
An exploration of how three foods fuel spiritual life and connect to Laylat al-Qadr. Bread—humanity’s oldest prepared food at 14,400 years—represents transformation and wholeness. Dates, “the bread of the desert,” sweeten the breaking of fast and are among the most sustaining foods of humanity. Coffee sustains the night prayer when destiny is written. These lectures reveal how ordinary foods become sacred through worship, tracing bread’s ancient origins, dates in Quranic revelation, and coffee’s role in Islamic devotion—where humanity’s table meets heaven’s night.

🔹 This year, our Nights of Qadr come during a time of many challenges, emotions, and stress for our community. We will dedicate all of our programs to acknowledging these struggles while coming together in prayer, reflection, and support for one another.

As we gather for worship, let us keep everyone in our thoughts and prayers, asking for patience, strength, healing, and peace for our community and for all those who are facing hardship.
