Abstract:
The lecture will begin by briefly addressing two tafsīr-related questions raised from the study of Sūrat Ṭā Hā: how the Qurʾānic account of Musa’s killing of an Egyptian is to be understood within the doctrine of ʿiṣmah, particularly with respect to the Ulu al-ʿAzm prophets, and the nature of Musa’s relationship with Hārūn. These preliminary discussions will then serve as an entry point into the central focus of the lecture—a comparative analysis of the Mosaic figure in the Qurʾān and the Hebrew Bible. The talk will explore the Qurʾān’s emphasis on Musa’s prophetic mission and moral authority in contrast to the Biblical portrayal of Moses as the primary agent of covenantal fulfillment. It will also examine differences in narrative strategy, notably the Bible’s extended historical storytelling and the Qurʾān’s concise, episodic accounts interwoven with theological, moral, and social instruction.

Ramadan Event, Dua Kumayl & Lecture 🕒 Every Thursday at 6:30 PM — Starting February 19 Speaker: Dr. Sadik Kassim Lecture: "The Soul in Motion" https://sites.mit.edu/zekrmit/ @zekrMIT
Abstract:
🔻The Soul in Motion: What Quantum Physics, Migrating Animals, and the Prayer of Imam Ali Teach Us About Becoming

A Four-Part Ramadan Series

Everything is in motion. Electrons tunnel through barriers. Genes jump across chromosomes. Birds and butterflies cross impossible distances. But only the soul migrates with agency—laboring toward the One, choosing how to become.
Drawing on the Qur’an, cutting-edge science, classical Islamic philosophy, and the whispered prayers (munājāt) of Imam Ali, this four-part series explores the soul’s journey and reveals how the munājāt operate as a tool for transformation. In an age when AI promises to master language and replace religion with better-generated texts, discover why transformation cannot be simulated: because only embodied souls can exercise the agency to ask, to practice, and to become.
