Title: "Islam and Democracy: A Quranic Perspective"

Abstract: The relationship between Islam and democracy has been a very controversial topic in political theology. There is a debate on whether they are compatible with one another. Scholars’ views range from affirming it completely, claiming that Islam is totally compatible with the Western concept of democracy, to rejecting it totally, seeing no common ground between them. To study this subject, thus, it seems necessary to start with having an overall picture of the major perspectives offered in this discourse. In the next step, we can look briefly at various Islamic authoritative sources to find a general idea of what could be used to support or reject those perspectives.

*️⃣ Due to holidays MIT Quran Study and Dua Kumayl programs will resume in year 2020 with Friday January 10th (Quran Study) and Thursday January 16th (Dua Kumayl). Some of these events will be devoted to invited talks, special topics, and upcoming occasions.

We will try to keep our programs weekly (either Thursday or Friday, as above), except for month of Ramadan.
