Week 69 | #NoToExecutionsTuesdays
This Tuesday, prisoners in Mahabad, Bukan, and Yasuj joined the nationwide hunger strike against the death penalty, bringing the total to 44 prisons across Iran.
Since early May, 129 people—including 4 women and 2 who were minors at the time of their alleged crimes—have been executed.
In the face of systemic violence and injustice, solidarity grows.

On Thursday, May 29, 2025, Iran's nationwide strike by truck drivers and freight haulers entered its eighth consecutive day, with roads and terminals remaining largely deserted.
The protest, marked by strong coordination and widespread participation, is driven by a series of crushing economic pressures: skyrocketing insurance costs, soaring prices of spare parts and tires, excessive tolls, manipulated fuel pricing, and stagnating freight wages.
Beyond immediate economic grievances, drivers are also demanding structural reforms, including improved road safety and better working conditions. The strike highlights the urgent need for both economic justice and basic infrastructure improvements in Iran's transport sector.

On Thursday, May 29, 2025, Iran's nationwide strike by truck drivers and freight haulers entered its eighth consecutive day, with roads and terminals remaining largely deserted.
So far, various labor and professional groups—including teachers' associations in multiple cities and the Free Union of Iranian Workers—have expressed their support for the truck drivers' strike. According to reports, several striking drivers and haulers, particularly in Kermanshah and Sanandaj, have been arrested by security forces.
Here is the English translation of the statement by the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers' Trade Associations in support of the truck drivers' strike.
➡️ Statement by the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers' Trade Associations in Support of Truck Drivers’ Strikes
Over nearly half a century of the Islamic Republic’s rule over this land, we have witnessed a continuous increase in economic pressure on vulnerable social groups—especially workers, teachers, and retirees. According to official statistics, the majority of them currently live below the poverty line.
Life under such harsh conditions has become a slow death, and particularly in the past decade, due to escalating economic pressures—sanctions that themselves are the product of state policies—this situation has reached the brink of crisis.
The rising rates of suicide, domestic killings, a sharp increase in social crimes, the terrifying number of children left out of school, mass migration of youth and academics—all are symptoms of this deepening crisis.
Meanwhile, the state and its security apparatus have consistently responded to all forms of organizing and peaceful civil or labor protests with repression, fabricated charges, and security crackdowns.
A clear example of this is the arrest and issuance of long prison sentences for dozens of labor activists, teacher unionists, and retirees’ rights advocates in recent years.
It is in this context that we are now witnessing a nationwide strike by truck drivers seeking to defend their labor rights.
This peaceful act of protest is a response to the mounting economic and livelihood pressures systematically imposed on these hard-working individuals by the ruling establishment.
Among the drivers’ legitimate demands—which, despite repeated efforts, have received no adequate response from the authorities—are: the reduction of diesel fuel quotas, rising social security insurance premiums, the failure to adjust wages and freight rates in line with soaring inflation, the lack of basic job safety provisions, and in particular, the neglect of the country’s deteriorating transportation infrastructure.
Now that the truck drivers, out of desperation, have launched a widespread nationwide strike, the government’s response has not been to seek solutions or offer appropriate remedies. Instead, it has deployed military transportation units such as those of the IRGC to break the strike, and has moved to intimidate and arrest several of the leading figures in this national action. This is the same repressive pattern that has been used for years to suppress peaceful civil and labor protests across various social groups.
We, the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers' Trade Associations—who, through over two decades of labor and civic activity, have repeatedly paid the price for pursuing our rightful demands—see ourselves as united in pain and destiny with other segments of society, especially workers in the transportation sector. We express our full support for their strikes.
In our view, the only viable and achievable path toward fulfilling these wide-ranging demands lies in the convergence of protest movements. No group’s demands can be realized outside of this decisive unity.
We warn the authorities: this recurring pattern of repressing peaceful labor and civil protests cannot continue indefinitely. We call for a proper response to the truck drivers’ legitimate demands and the immediate release of the detained strikers.
