The Persians burned everything here in 1795, but the Armenians rebuilt everything. Until the middle of the XIX century, the street was called Shuabazari ("Middle Bazaar"), throughout the XIX century Shuabazari remained the same narrow and crooked street as centuries before.
There were a large number of trading shops selling wine, fruit, cheese, fabrics, silk, carpets, coins were minted here, horses were shod. Armenians settled on the street, here they built the churches of Norashen and Dzhigrasen. Since 1876, the street has been called the Armenian Bazaar.

Under Beria, the Armenian Bazaar was turned into a through highway. To do this, it was made twice as wide. Half of the houses had to be demolished. The temple of Jigrashen was also demolished. Norashen managed to be saved.
