I worked on his story for a while
Then noticed how over used the themes of immortality are in fiction. Which ended up making me hate the story and put it aside completely

His story bloomed from my existentialism and fear of death.
In their world, elves serve ancient plants, avatars of long gone deities that grant them abilities. The plants choose their servants by marking them
He serves the tree of wisdom.
The actual story is about his sister tho. Who was marked by a new god, and a flower that grants it's servants death
Aka, the elves who pray for this deity, who are called the flower children, age and die like every normal creature

Aster still hasn't made peace with this idea, so he forces his sister, camellia, into studying in the grand library. So maybe, maybeee the tree would bless her, and save her from her inevitable death

All good, until an illness spreads through the barks of the tree. Making it wither and die.
The elves who are bound by the soul to this tree also start having symptoms of a sickness. And they blame it on the flower that grants death. And decide to destroy it to save themselves and their god

Aster is forced between duty, and his family. he ultimately decides to let camellia take what's left of her flower and run away. So maybe she could buy time and figure out why an immortal tree might die

This is practically the start of the story. Through the lens of camellia. As she tries to save her brother (sickness etc) and accepts death for what it is.
