The line graph compares five different leisure activities in terms of their popularity among US senior citizens between 1980 and 2010. Units are measured in percentages.
Although there were minor disparities, overall, all pastimes rose in popularity over time, with the exception of theatre, which generally declined but saw a recovery towards the end of the period. Of particular interest is hiking participation, which experienced substantial growth, overtaking TV watching to become the most popular hobby for the elderly in the US.
The favourite pursuits of senior Americans underwent significant shifts over the three decades in question. In 1980, a remarkable 60% of older people watched television in their free time. After an initial increase to a high of 70% in 2000, this figure then experienced a slight dip, concluding the period at about 65% in 2010. Theatre attendance, on the other hand, followed a contrasting trajectory. Although it decreased from 50% to 30% in the first two decades, it then recovered to approximately 45% by the close of the period. Reading habits changed quite radically during this period. Starting at 30% in 1980, the proportion of senior reading enthusiasts went up to 40% in 1990 followed by a sudden decline to 20% later. From the 2000s onwards, however, a rebound occured, surpassing theatre attendance and reaching a peak of 60% at the end.
The popularity of both hiking and internet surfing surged dramatically. Hiking participation, initially at a mere 20%, saw a consistent rise, exceeding all previous levels and peaking at an impressive 80% in 2010. A similar pattern is playing out when it comes to internet surfing. While it began at just 5% in the first year, it climbed to roughly 15% by 2000 before experiencing a sharp rise to overtake theatre attendance and end the period at 50%.

In the context of rising healthcare expenditures and increasing chronic diseases, there has been a call for redirecting national budgets from curative treatments to educational programs and preventive measures. While treating illnesses remains as an integral component of healthcare systems, I believe that governments should indeed prioritize prevention over treatment.
🥈INTRODUCTION
In light of escalating healthcare costs and increasing chronic conditions, the idea of redirecting national budgets from curative treatments to educational campaigns and preventive efforts has gained traction. Even though treating existing diseases is an indispensable part of healthcare systems, I personally advocate for prioritizing prevention over treatment.
🥉INTRODUCTION
In a world characterized by escalating healthcare expenses and increasing health challenges, medical practitioners often stress the importance of redirecting national funds from curative treatments to public awareness campaigns and preventive actions. Although treating illnesses is an essential component of healthcare systems, I call for emphasizing prevention over treatment.
