Trump defense calls out the Democrats for bringing up an old English law as a precedent for impeachment (which they did do).

◻️The free-speech argument, that Trump has a right to free speech, and the right to political speech in general, has entered the building via his defense.

🚨Trump defense says that if people actually believe that he committed a crime, like they are alleging, the DOJ CAN arrest a president after he leaves office, therefore there should be no risk of a president taking advantage of his last month in office, because he CAN be held accountable later. There is no need for an impeachment mechanism to exist after a President leaves office. He quotes Article 1, Section 3, Clause 7 of The Constitution, “Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than removal from office.”‼️‼️‼️‼️

🔵Trump defense talking about how this trial can sow more division and tear the country further apart and that the Democrats are doing all of this for political gain.

🟨What I like about this trial is that it shows how the Deep state has been using “Constitutional theory” as the defense just called it, instead of The Constitution for a long time. Most of the American government is actually constitutionally illegal.

🟠One of the great points for the defense, that is good for the Democrats watching to hear, is that at some point the Republicans could be in power and the tables could be turned and in that case, you wouldn’t want impeachment being used as a tool to “disenfranchise.” Many are not thinking that far.

🟩“Insatiable lust for impeachment” the defense calls it. Accurate.

🟡This law means that people can’t be punished without a fair trial. So it’s illegal to try Trump without due process, which he didn’t have in the House. An impeachment of a private citizen means lack of due process, and lack of a fair trial because it is illegal.
