🇧🇩🔥📹 — Over the past 24 hours, a wave of violent protests took the streets of the People's Republic of Bangladesh against the Leftist Government led by the Bangladesh Awami League

➡️ The protests demand the end of the quota system that, according to the opponents, benefits young people from families close to the leftist 76-year-old prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has governed the country since 2009.

➡️ The movement began on July 1st with road and railway blockades, and now it ended up in these clashes that caused deaths.

➡️ At least 17 people died during clashes at protests across Bangladesh on Thursday, local media reported, as authorities blocked mobile services across most of the South Asian country.

➡️ On social media, it was reported that Bangladesh authorities cut some mobile internet services to quell protests against civil service hiring quotas.

➡️ Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the junior information technology minister, said mobile internet had been “temporarily suspended” owing to “various rumours” and the “unstable situation created” on social media.

➡️ Services would be restored once the situation returned to normal, he added.

➡️ Two days earlier, internet providers had cut off access to Facebook – the protesters’ key organizing tool.

➡️ On social media, multiple netizens shared videos and photos of the clashes between protesters and security forces, including where students attacked downed police officers sticks and where security forces open fire on protesters
