•What does it mean to understand mental health?
Since the goal of most of my writings and of many others is to normalize mental health and the things that come with it, I think we need a clearer view of it. The answer is subjective but here's mine.
What really stands between someone who understands mental health and one who doesn't? Does reading psychology books qualify you for that? Does it just mean running mental health channels and preaching about not stigmatizing? We could tell people we understand them and appreciate them all we want. We can hold events every single day and broadcast the message all over the world but still wouldn't make a difference unless we're able to make an understanding and compassionate generation. What is that like? Well, you tell me. As a parent, would you let your children take a day or two off from school if they are having overwhelming stress or let them seek help if they aren't okay? As an employer, would you accept it if a worker tells you they didn't show up because they weren't mentally stable? As a teacher, would you stop kids from bullying eachother? Would you believe that one student that tells you they can't read because they're dyslexic and try to help them the way they need? As a friend, would you stand strong and let it pass when your friend has mood swings? As a sibling, would you leave your sister or brother alone when they ask for privacy? As a neighbor, would you abstain from pointing fingers at and gossiping about the woman next door who goes to therapy? As a leader, would you prioritize mental health as much as every other aspect of health in your country?
Are we there yet? Cause that's the type of people we have to be if we 'understand' mental health.

She wears the night,
Like an elegant dress made of thousand galactic stars,
Colors stolen from dove feathers and small drops of honey,
As her flaws and scars illuminated by the moonlight, an ugly truth.
Deep inside her mind,
Loud thunders and rainstorms, a cold place to ever be,
As the wind of secrets occupied her ears, an endless sea of monsoon,
Like a typhoon as she listened to her favorite death song,
Reminded her wrongs, bringing her back to where she belonged.
His arms, protecting her from the sun and its burning touches,
Gave her wings of strength, a comfort, and her nyctophilia,
As if their surroundings had lost the sparks,
Allowing them to have a graceful dance in the dark.
