WIUT is leading the startup ecosystem in Uzbekistan
Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) is building a unique and successful entrepreneurship ecosystem in Uzbekistan. As a result, innoWIUT Entrepreneur's lab invited its recent graduate, a successful IT developer and the first hero of CNN’s new project #TheGenerationNext Durdona Bakhronova for an open discussion “Empowering Female Tech Entrepreneurs” on campus. Her mission is to encourage more women and young people to join the IT world. Durdona works for a tech firm, Super Dispach, and has become a mentor for many young developers, particularly women.
WIUT's students and graduates have a strong track record in innovation and entrepreneurship that has recently become even more prominent. Mokhinur Botirova, a BSc degree student in Economics with Finance, won the national final of "100 ideas for Uzbekistan" competition, while 3 WIUT startup teams were amongst the 40 winners of the 5th cycle of the "Startup Initiatives" national competition.

On the 8th January 2022, the Uzbekistan Polo Federation (UPF) held a press-conference on the Snow Polo Amirsoy Cup held at Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT). The aim of the press-conference was to popularise this sport in Uzbekistan and open up new prospects for the massive development of equestrian polo in the regions of Uzbekistan. Bakhrom Gaziyev, the President of the Uzbekistan Polo Federation highlighted that equestrianism is an historical sport in Uzbekistan and it is increasingly getting popular day by day in the country. He stated that, “the historical homeland of polo is considered to be Great Britain. In Uzbekistan, they began to play "polo" a long time ago with ethno-games such as ulok-kupkari and turkiston which were more popular in Central Asia, but as a modern sport, equestrian polo in Uzbekistan began to develop relatively recently.” The UPF is the only Polo Federation in Central Asia and nowadays there are more than 15 professional Polo teams in Uzbekistan.
