How to improve your writing skills?

It's no secret that most American universities, especially private liberal colleges, place a strong emphasis on writing.

Mandatory writing seminars, daily essays, 3-4 fairly voluminous papers per semester, and other types of assignments that involve working with text (summaries, analyses, arguments, questions, etc.) - you need to prepare for all of these even if your specialty is not associated with the humanities.

To assist you initially, I have compiled a small list of resources where you can learn more about English grammar, punctuation, and writing in general!



🌱HyperGrammar is an electronic grammar course from the University of Ottawa.

got a B plus from one of my gen-ed classes

I had a dream. Usually, I do not remember dreams I have while sleeping, but this one was touching. The pain I felt was distance, being far from my parents. I heard their voices as if they were talking at home, discussing my education and whether they would allow me to study abroad. My mom was saying, 'She is a girl, I can't allow her to be far from us, I'm afraid.' However, I saw my dad saying, 'I believe in her, and she will do the right thing. We need to give her the chance to build her better future.' I was overwhelmed with happiness. Then, I woke up with tears in my eyes.

One more semester, “just” 5 more months…

Only a week until 2023 ends. You will be one year older again; some of you are no longer 17. Some of you are becoming adults. Now, it is time to dream bigger, turn those dreams into plans, and make them come true. Plan how you are going to live, how many books you are going to read, what kind of bad habits you want to eliminate, what kind of good habits you want to cultivate, which countries you want to travel to, and where you see yourself in 2024.

These may be just dreams, but you need to turn them into plans, and plans should become a reality. However, remember that you need to make yourself proud. If people around you demotivate you after hearing about your dreams or plans, keep your plans secret until you achieve them; it's a key to success.

Some of you want to achieve an 8+ score on the IELTS or a 1500+ score on the SAT; some of you have already achieved it. Some people around us are dealing with applications to Ivy League schools, while some of you are already studying there.

Some people are passionately pursuing their American dreams, and some of us are already in the United States, attending top universities, struggling with assignments, exams, and missing our parents and home country, feeling nostalgic.

No matter what, never stop dreaming. Dreams have the ability to turn into reality—believe me!
