Pagans celebrate the Festival of Imbolc or Bride around 2 February; and Christians celebrate the same date, but call it Candlemas.
Imbolc is an Irish-Gaelic word that's translated variously as 'in the belly' and 'ewe's milk'. It represents the quickening of light and life. The first sprouting of leaves can be seen, and we celebrate the successful passing of winter and the beginning of the agricultural year.
It's also a day of celebrating the Celtic Goddess Brigid (sometimes known as Bride, which is usually pronounced 'briydee'). Brigid is the Goddess of Poetry, Healing, Smithcraft and Midwifery. If you can make it with your
hands, Brigid rules it.
She's a triple Goddess, so on this day we honour her in all her aspects. We welcome the Goddess who has been renewed in the winter and reborn as the Flower Maiden. She has passed through Her phase as the Hag, Crone or Wise One, and is a Maiden again.
This is a time for communing with Brigid, and lighting her sacred flame. This flame was once marked in Europe with huge blazes, torches and fire in every form.
The fire represents the spark of illumination and inspiration that burns in our bellies, and encourages us to create and make. What was born at the Solstice begins to manifest now, which means we each light our own light, and set ourselves tasks and challenges. We nurture and kindle our resolutions, and begin to look outwards again and perform outer activity - although first, we look deep within ourselves to discover what potential lies there, waiting to be fulfilled.

🀦-It's a wound of THIS lifetime.

Even in this present life, I've been mishandled, smacked, shamed, judged
and disrespected by both men AND women.
Yet, I KNOW I'm here to be an advocate for the women who may not have had their tongues sliced, but whose voices are still being silenced and censored. Who still aren't being heard.
I've said this MANY times, but do you think I'd be talking about periods and vaginas and witches and all things taboo if I actually had a choice?
Do you think I'd choose to keep putting myself out there, over and over
again? Do you think I'd choose to write books that aren't easy to market - that talk about SHE and how our wombs are a power source? Do you think I'd choose to declare that I'm a witch, and wake other witches - creating yet more ways for others potentially to ridicule, judge and shame
me?
But it is what I've signed up for.
I'm here to show that witch hunts are still happening.
As I write this book, my father-in-love is in Mexico for the Day of the Dead celebrations. He sent me a picture of an outside altar set up in memory of female homicide victims: women who've been killed this year by the Mexican government. Their crime? Being women.
The Western world version of modern-day witch hunts can be witnessed in any trash mag or reality TV show. In them, you'll see women being called out, judged and 'burned' by mainstream and social media. So know that the fear some of us feel about sharing our story, our truths and our vulnerabilities isn't made up, 'perceived' or merely historical.
It's real.
Which is why the fact you're reading this book, the fact you've heard The Call, is so bloody important.

🀤-Blanket summoning
Wrap yourself in a quilt or blanket like it's a sacred robe. Sit on the floor, hum a tune you don't know the words to, and say, "I call forth the gentle miracle of safety." Sometimes, protection is the most underrated wonder.
