The archetype of the witch, and of the magic worker in general, is and has always been one that is political. The witch is rebel against all powers that be, material and immaterial, whether against the church or against the law, or in many cases, both.

There is in much of the work the aspect of a vigilante-esque justice, and the knowing that often those in power are incapable of properly imparting justice, or may need to have justice brought against them.

The witch does not stand idly by. The witch does not hunker away and avoid taking sides. The witch is often brash, ugly, claimed as child of the father of lies, yet truthful tongue like a dagger.

To be a witch is to be a shield to the helpless and voiceless and a sword against those who would harm them and ensnare them.

There is no cage door locked, no wall imparted, no shackles on the legs of the wild witch.

So the witch must not fear being political, for those who would enslave us certainly have no fear of using politics against us.
