Cyrus the Great, also known as Cyrus II, was the founder of the Achaemenid Empire of ancient Persia. The exact date of his birth is unknown, but it is estimated to have been around 600 B.C. Cyrus was born in what is now modern-day Iran, and was the first king to unite the different tribes of the region under a single empire.

Cyrus is remembered for his military conquests, his wisdom and his tolerance towards different cultures and religions. After consolidating his power in Persia, he embarked on a series of successful military campaigns, conquering the neighbouring kingdoms of Media, Lydia, and Babylonia. He also extended his empire to Central Asia, Afghanistan, and parts of India.

Despite his military prowess, Cyrus was known for his humane treatment of defeated enemies. He was also tolerant of different religions, and even allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem from Babylonian exile. His policies helped to establish a peaceful and prosperous empire that lasted for more than two centuries.

Cyrus died in 530 B.C. while on a military campaign in Central Asia. He was succeeded by his son, Cambyses II, who continued his father's legacy of conquest.
