In the freezing waters of Iceland and North America, fish warm their bones with fabulous fur coats. Donβt believe us? Just visit the Royal Museum of Scotland and youβll see a trout with white fur attached.
Real talk: no Fur Bearing Trout have ever been found. But that hasnβt stopped fantastical stories of fur-bearing trout from permeating folklore. One tale talks of a hair tonic spill in the Arkansas River. Seizing the opportunity, fishermen transformed into barbers and tempted the trout with promises of free trims.
In Maine, legend has it that furry trout were under a catch and release policy: if one were caught, the warden would measure it against the fisherβs foot. If the fishβs length matched the fisherβs foot, it could be eaten and its pelt used for slippers.
