The biggest victor from this deal would be Ukraine gaining 250 billion dollars of foreign investment from the US AND retaining 50% ownership and thereby profits from the minerals while shouldering half the responsibility and taking advantage of US technological advantages

В рамках сделки по природным ресурсам будет создан инвестфонд по восстановлению Украины, заявили в Минфине США.

В то же время издание Bloomberg уточняет, что сделка будет включать в себя алюминий, графит, нефть и природный газ. Сам фонд будет контролироваться Вашингтоном, за США останется право первой прибыли. Военная же помощь, которую страна будет поставлять Киеву, будет засчитываться в качестве взноса в фонд. Впрочем, и от Украины теперь также не требуется возврата вложенных в нее средств.

There are multiple parts to this deal now that I've read through it.

1. US military aid to Ukraine going forward will be counted towards the investment fund.

This means the US can "invest" by sending weapons.

The US is a 50/50 partner which means they have to contribute significantly to reap the benefits which is 50% of the profits.

Therefore it is likely the US will not give much money but will instead continue military aid to Ukraine and increase technology sharing to reach the 50/50 threshold.

2. 10 years of reinvestment. For the first 10 years no one is allowed to cash out the profits instead all profits goes into reinvestment.

This means 2 things.

1. The US will continue military aid to Ukraine.

2. The US is interested in Ukraine surviving the war with as much territory as possible.

These 2 points would benefit the US the most.

However if they want to pull out and drop the matter the US can do so without any issue.

So all in all the US can now decide to double down on support for Ukraine or completely drop the matter whenever they want.

In conclusion the US will continue looking for a peace deal their goal is to end the war asap while giving Ukraine the best possible deal if the peace deal fails they can either double down or drop the matter.

It opens the options for the US but benefits Ukraine the most but there are potential long term gains for the US depending on the outcome of the war.

NEW: US military is planning a massive increase in the use of drones in its largest overhaul since the end of the Cold War.
