πŸ¦ƒ Have you heard of Thanksgiving Day? πŸ¦ƒ

It's an American holiday celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday of November.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Interesting fact: Canadians also celebrate it, but in October.
πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ This year, American Thanksgiving is on November 28th. For them, it is usually a family celebration during which people give thanks for what they have.
πŸ“œ The "history" of the holiday has changed, but today it is often associated with a harvest celebration organized by the Pilgrims (European settlers) and members of the Wampanoag tribe of Native Americans.

❓Do we have a day off that day? No, Webster in Tashkent will have classes as usual on November 28.

❗️ However, we are preparing something for our students to have a chance to get the modern spirit of Thanksgiving, and to engage you with the world outside of university. We will give you this information soon.
The weather recently has us in a New Year mood! ❄️ Do you feel the smell of tangerines in the air? 🍊 Very soon, you will be celebrating the start of a new decade! On that note, your fellow students once again need your input on the question of how you will all be celebrating NY. Poll below πŸ‘‡
β€‹β€‹πŸ”Ά Remember, we said that there is something planned to give students a chance to participate in the spirit of Thanksgiving? We are ready to make the announcement.

Webster University is inviting a few of our students to meet with a group of children with disabilities, living in Kibray district of Tashkent region. This will take place on November 28th, from approximately 12:00 to 16:00.

πŸ”Έ A bus will collect you from Webster University, take you to the meeting place, and take you back once the event is over.
πŸ”Έ You will be provided with fruits and treats to give the children.
πŸ”Έ Students are encouraged to bring books or toys so you may play or read to the children. You can also gift these things to the kids.

We have also set up a donations box, where you may leave some money that we can pass on to Opa Singillar, a non-governmental organization that helps disabled women, girls, and children. The box is located in room 206.

Happy Monday, everyone! β˜•οΈ

While we believe all Gorloks demonstrate their attitude and hard work in attending Webster, there are some who we wish to highlight. And we are not the only ones who appreciate that there are those who must put in twice the effort to get an education. One of them is Khayrulla Rukhiddinov, an MA TESL student.

Khayrulla is blind, and in a world made for seeing folks, he's had to get creative to realize his dreams. Last month, Repost published a video about him and his story. Watch on Youtube (Russian text, Uzbek voice).
We are continuing our video series, Get to Know Us. In this video with Marija Lukac, hear about what Webster University in Tashkent does differently from other universities, how we help students succeed, and more.

πŸ”Ή Professor Marija Lukac is an ESL and MA TESL instructor with more than 10 years of experience teaching in different countries of the world.
