Tracking your domains
Once a year, domain ownership must be confirmed.
If this is not done, the domain will go into auction mode.
You can track the expiration dates of your domains on the site dns.ton.org in a normal browser or using the decentralized browser Tonkeeper in the wallet interface.
Connect your TON wallet with domains and click on "My Domains" to see the list of domains and their expiration date.
Also, the latest Tonkeeper 3.4 update introduces push notifications for decentralized apps.
The apps will notify you about DNS record expiration, auction bids or any other events. Notifications are displayed in the "Activity" tab and can be disabled at any time.
To enable notifications go to "Settings" - "Notifications" and enable TON Domains and Getgems.

Domain renewal
According to the rules of the protocol, each TON DNS owner must "renew" their domain with a small payment on the domain contract at least once a year.
This can be done at any time as the domain is renewed for a year from the date of transaction.
The renewal is necessary so that expired domains, whose owners for some reason have lost access or interest in them, can return to the "open auction" mode and anyone can buy them.
To renew a domain name from your collection, open it in Tonkeeper and click the "Renew" button.
Don't forget to renew your domains!

Address Update: EQ Β» UQ
By the end of this year the entire TON network will display wallet addresses differently. The new address will start with UQ instead of EQ. And the last four letters will change too. The old address will also work and direct to the same wallet. It doesn't effect the safety of funds stored in your wallet anyhow.
Old address:
EQ
New address:
UQ
Why change?
There are two address styles on the TON blockchain and until now only one was used for apps and wallets.
The EQ format is best for smart contracts that process incoming funds. If a smart contract isnβt published yet β i.e., the code isnβt on the blockchain β then the TONs sent to that address will bounce back to the sender. And this is a safety feature: if there is any error, TONs bounce back.
The UQ format is best for wallets. Coins never bounce because wallets are designed to simply store funds. Each wallet starts as a plain address without a code on the blockchain. So, it would make no sense for coins to bounce back.
This year we are switching wallets to the more suitable UQ format. And if you continue sending funds to an old EQ address someone gave you, there will be two options:
1. Most likely the destination wallet is already actively used and you wonβt notice any difference.
2. Less likely that the wallet has never been used for payments. And Tonkeeper wonβt send coins to that address next year. You will have to ask the recipient for a new UQ address.
October 5, 2023: all addresses switch to the UQ format in Tonkeeper.
January 1, 2024: Tonkeeper stops checking the contract status and uses the βbounceableβ flag in the address. Coins sent to non-published contracts with an EQ address will bounce back to the sender.

Dive into the future of internet
Try the decentralized, secure, reliable Internet of the future with TON services - TON Sites, TON Proxy, TON WWW, TON DNS.
Version 1.0
You can run a .ton site that does not depend on a fixed IP, a centralized domain and a centralized certificate. A TON site is highly resistant to censorship, it cannot be blocked by domain or certificate, and you can freely change IPs without downtime. Users can access such sites using public entry nodes compatible with HTTP Proxy. The site can be hosted on a private web server or on TON Storage.
β
WE ARE HERE
β
Version 1.5
All major TON services (such as ton.org, dns.ton.org, bridge, major marketplaces, DEXs, etc.) will run TON sites. TON sites will be supported by all major TON wallets and browser TON extensions. Moving away from public entry nodes towards local entry nodes on each user's device. Standalone TON Proxy app for all major OS.
β
Version 2.0
Enthusiasts can run intermediate proxy nodes. Traffic from the user to the site goes through intermediate nodes via garlic routing. Similar to the functionality of the anonymous TOR and I2P networks, this will secure the IP address.
β
Version 3.0
Intermediate proxies start accepting micropayments in Toncoin by the TON Payment Network for processed traffic. Coins are deducted from the user's wallet balance.

Sub-domains
Like regular sites, you can have a sub-domain for your TON Sites with the help of TON DNS.
To do so, you can use any suitable smart contract.
Weβve developed a few ready-made smart contracts.
With manual-dns smart contract a siteβs owner can assign any page to any sub-domain.
If youβre the owner of a service, you can use the auto-dns smart contract. Users can register a sub-domain to themselves by paying a network fee and an optional payment to the service.
Say the social network place.ton allows Alice to register independently alice.place.ton for her personal page by paying a little bit of Toncoin.
You can go one step further and have a full-blown auction for NFT sub-domain β the same way the first β.tonβ domains are distributed.

Tracking and redemption of expired domains
If after one year of domain ownership, the owner does not perform any operation with the domain and does not renew it, then the domain can be re-auctioned, which lasts for one week.
In order to run the re-auction and zero out the previous owner of the expired DNS domain, you need to generate a certain transaction, but as of 10/29/23, there is no way to do this on the dns.ton.org platform.
So how to run a re-auction and conveniently keep track of all expired domains?

Today, the TON Blockchain set a new world record by processing over 42 million transactions in 12 minutes of testing. The peak speed reached 108,409 transactions per second, exceeding the results of all blockchains and Visa and Mastercard payment systems.
It is important to note that this performance can be improved, as the record was set on a test network of 256 validators. With enough validators, TON will be able to process millions of transactions per second from billions of users.
