💰 SALARY NEGOTIATION: THE PART MOST CANDIDATES GET WRONG
One of the biggest mistakes we see candidates make:
They negotiate based on their current salary instead of the value of the new role.
If you currently earn $90K, that doesn't automatically mean your next role should be $99K.
Maybe the market for your skill set is $130K–$160K.
Or maybe the new role has significantly more responsibility and should be higher.
Your current salary is one data point.
It shouldn't be the ceiling.
Here is how I would approach a negotiation:
1. Find the market range
For example, our current Jaya Talent benchmark for US / Tier-1 remote roles shows:
Senior Blockchain / Smart Contract Developer: $180K–$250K
Senior Product Manager: $200K–$280K
Senior Sales / BD / Partnerships: $150K–$220K
Senior Marketing / Growth: $160K–$220K
These are benchmarks, not guaranteed offers. Geography, company stage, scope, scarcity and track record matter.
2. Separate guaranteed money from potential money
An offer of:
$150K base
+ $30K bonus
+ $50K tokens
is NOT the same as:
$230K guaranteed cash.
Ask:
→ Is the bonus guaranteed?
→ What determines the bonus?
→ When is it paid?
→ What exactly are the tokens?
→ What is the vesting period?
→ Is there a cliff?
→ What happens if you leave?
3. Don't give your minimum first
If your real target is $180K and you say:
“I would accept $160K–$180K.”
You have already negotiated against yourself.
Instead:
“Based on the scope of the role and the market for this level, I’m targeting around $180K–$200K in base, depending on the overall package.”
Now there is something to discuss.
4. Negotiate the entire package
If the company cannot move on base, there may be other levers:
→ Signing bonus
→ Performance bonus
→ Equity
→ Token allocation
→ Vesting terms
→ Title
→ Scope
→ Remote flexibility
→ Review after 6 months
→ Relocation support
Sometimes the best negotiation isn't another $10K in base.
It is changing the structure of the offer.
5. Have a number — but know WHY
Don't say:
“I want $200K because that's what I deserve.”
Say:
“My target is $200K because the role covers X, Y and Z, and my experience in A and B directly maps to those responsibilities.”
That's a much stronger conversation.
The rule I use:
Don't negotiate from:
“What do I need?”
Negotiate from:
“What is the market value of the work I'm being hired to do?”
Know the market.
Know your contribution.
Know the full package.
Then negotiate.

What works in 2026:
• Reply-first — 10-15 value replies/day to niche accounts is the #1 growth lever
• Native video under 2:20 — talking-head clips can do millions of impressions with zero followers
• Reply to every comment in the first hour — author-reply chains are the strongest signal in the code
• Engineer for copy-link shares (40x) — posts people DM to friends
• Build mutual follows — mutual replies got a 40x boost in July 2026
