A Bitcoin developer disrupted the operation of the Bitcoin test network.
Jameson Lopp, co-founder and security director of the Casa platform, conducted an attack on the Bitcoin test network, disrupting its normal functioning. With his actions, the developer created over 165,000 blocks in just a week. Under normal conditions, this would have taken 3 years.
💲 Lopp carried out a so-called "stress test attack," which involves creating a huge number of transactions to increase the network's workload and disrupt other operations.
Due to the overload, Bitcoin developers were forced to halt work on some applications.
☺️ Lopp stated that the main goal of the attack was to demonstrate the most vulnerable areas of the blockchain and address them, rather than attempting to cripple the network.
The "stress test" cost the developer $1 💸in payment for the electricity consumed.
In a video, developers showed an unsuccessful attempt to synchronize the test node, which failed due to "creating thousands of new blocks per hour."

Let's travel back to 2010. Very few people knew about Bitcoin, and even fewer used it. The digital asset had only had a market price for about six months and was still worth much less than the US dollar.
In May 2010, a Florida-based American programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz posted an offer on a forum that would change Bitcoin's status forever. He offered 10,000 BTC for two large pizzas, and four days later, an anonymous Briton accepted his offer.
At the market rate at the time, 10,000 BTC were worth $41, while the Briton spent only $25 on the pizzas. It remains unclear whether he understood Bitcoin's full potential or simply wanted to make $16.
Just nine months after buying the two pizzas, BTC reached parity with the US dollar. The mere fact of purchasing goods with bitcoins quickly gained popularity. Thus, every year on May 22, seasoned coin holders and newcomers alike joyfully celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day.
