Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (rahimahullah) said:

Strive to distance yourself from anything that brings worry, sorrow, or distress so that you may always remain at ease, with a content and open heart, focused on Allah, His worship, and your worldly and spiritual affairs. If you practice this, you will find relief. However, if you burden yourself with regret over the past or excessive concern for the future in a way not sanctioned by Islamic teachings, know that you will exhaust yourself and miss out on much goodness.

« Indeed, the number of months ordained by Allah is twelve—in Allah’s Record since the day He created the heavens and the earth—of which four are sacred. That is the right religion (way). So do not wrong yourselves during them »

while the rest of the world celebrates the beginning of their new year through acts of disobedience and innovation, we as muslims begin to prepare for the month of rajab which we have now entered. this is a sacred month in which Allah has mentioned in the qurān the importance of. rajab is also a golden opportunity of preparation for Ramadan (اللهم بلغنا) in which we plant the seeds of good deeds we want to carry over to ramadan and beyond it. fasting, praying, dhikr, seeking knowledge, giving charity; much more.

do not be distracted by the shiny wordly temptations of a ‘new year’. we don’t copy the disbelievers in their innovations and traditions because the muslim is constantly seeking improvement of themselves, every night and day through following the sunnah of our beloved prophet ﷺ and the perfect religion Allah has blessed us with.

If you have been not sure where to start in your preparation for Ramadan, then after rectifying our intention, we should be focusing on the quran already even more.

also, if you cannot understand Arabic and have been looking for an app that has points of reflection from the quran, then I highly recommend this app. Alongside the usual features such as reciters, translation etc., it also uses the mukhtasar (simplified) translation which is amazing, and also key lessons from every page!! May Allah bless those who brought this to my attention and also those who created the app!! 🤎
on fasting sha’ban

it was asked from aishah رضي الله عنها about the fasting of the prophet ﷺ and she said: he would fast until we said he will never break his fast, and he would not fast until we said he would never fast. I did not see the prophet ﷺ complete an entire month of fasting except for ramadan, and I did not see him complete more voluntary fasts than in the month of sha’ban

to prepare for ramadan, I have compiled a set of books (in english and Arabic) that I have (mostly) read in the past few years that I believe would be beneficial for all. I have kept the lists short as I believe that’s the best way to not feel overwhelmed and get the most out of this month of shaban before ramadan.

in english:
— important lessons for ramadan by sh abdul razzaq al abbad
— disciplining the soul by ibn al jawzi
— inner dimensions of the prayer, by ibn al qayyim
— virtues of siyam and qiyam during the month of ramadan, by sh ibn al baz

I hope you all benefit from it and may Allah allow us all to reach ramadan in good health 💌

it was reported from abu huraira that the messenger of Allah ﷺ said.“everyone from my nation will be forgiven except those who sin in public. among them is a man who commits an evil deed in the night that Allah has hidden for him, then in the morning he says: o people, I have committed this sin! His Lord had hidden it during the night, but in the morning he reveals what Allah has hidden.”

from Allah’s many blessings upon us is that He conceals our sins from the eyes of people. what we do secretly, He conceals. what we say, He conceals from the outside world. what if our sins and shortcomings were plastered on our face, then who would dare sit next to us, befriend us, or treat us kindly? how would we treat others really if we saw what they had done?

Allah knows the nature of His creation and gives us time and time again the opportunity to seek forgiveness, repent to Him, and start with a clean slate — everyday. and now with ramadan approaching, how far have we regressed and returned to our past bad habits and sins, and how much are we drowning in our sins and our shortcomings — the worst being those of us who are not even aware of our reality.

do not wait for ramadan as we are not promised tomorrow. do not
listen to shaytan’s whispers. he will try the hardest to make you feel despair and shame. wait for Ramadan to stop doing that certain thing you struggle with. don’t listen to him. start fresh today, tonight, now, and do not wait for ramadan to change. start the habits Allah loves, now. call to Him in His high names and lofty attributes, humble yourself before Him and remember who your Rabb is.

﴾Allah accepts only the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and foolishness and repent soon afterwards; it is they whom Allâh will forgive and Allah is Ever All-Knower, All-Wise﴿

may Allah forgive us all, pardon us, and make us from those who constantly return to Him.

negligence in worship and purifying / healing the heart in the month of sha’ban results in regret, pain and a feeling of laziness in ramadan; so, this is why you understand the preoccupation of the salaf with fasting, the quran and worship in general in the month of sha’ban.

do not deceive yourself and wish for it by saying things like: If ramadan comes, I will do such and such.

start from now! a little fatigue now followed by the pleasure of enjoying the month of Ramadan! and the first steps to start are to ask Allah for success and assistance as I swear by Allah, we do not own our hearts or ourselves and we can see our inability and laziness ( at times) in obeying Allah

— ahmad saif (trans.)

may Allah open our hearts and soften it. may Allah guide us to the straight path. may Allah make us from those who reach ramadan and end it with consistent resolve and sincerity. may Allah forgive us and pardon us for our shortcomings and laziness

whoever wants to know the measure of his closeness to the quran, that is: are you close to the quran or not? then they should follow the example of how the pious predecessors measured their closeness to the quran.

whoever reads their biographies will know that for them the matter is not measured by the amount of reading, or the number of completions/khatmaat. rather, they only had one tool, which was: your closeness and companionship to the Qur’an is according to the amount of your actions in accordance with it, meaning how do you act upon the quran. so you are a companion of the Qur’an and close to it as long as you act in accordance with it.

and from the power of the quran, is that it enters into a place and location that no person is able to reach, and that is the location of iman inside the heart. so the quran enters directly and infiltrates that area and activates it so that it increase in iman.

as Allah said in the quran: “the believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when His verses (this quran) are recited unto them, they increase their faith” { al anfal }
