Ibn al-Qayyim said: “If Allaah intends good for the needy slave, He tests him with something in order to bring him down and to lower his neck in humiliation and to decrease his importance to himself.”

And (there are) others who have acknowledged their sins, they have mixed a deed that was righteous with another that was evil. Perhaps Allâh will turn unto them in forgiveness. Surely, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Do you know what is backbiting?" The Companions said: "Allah and His Messenger know better." Thereupon he said, "Backbiting is talking about your (Muslim) brother in a manner which he dislikes." It was said to him: "What if my (Muslim) brother is as I say." He said, "If he is actually as you say, then that is backbiting; but if that is not in him, that is slandering."

al-Qurtubi (rahimahullah) said:

It was said to Ibraaheem ibn Adham (rahimahullah): Why is it that we supplicate and receive no response?

He said:

Because you know Allaah but you do not obey Him,

and you know the Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) but you do not follow his Sunnah,

and you know the Quran but you do not act in accordance with it,

and you eat from the blessings of Allaah but you do not give thanks for them,

and you know Paradise but you do not seek it,

and you know Hell but you do not flee from it,

and you know the shaytaan but you do not fight him rather you agree with him,

and you know death but you do not prepare for it,

and you have buried the dead but you do not learn a lesson from that,

and you ignore your own faults and are preoccupied with other people’s faults!

when days blur into week in these dark months, and it feels like you are carrying mountains on your shoulders, remember that you have a Lord that has fashioned you and created you to worship Him and seek His aid. Remember that we cannot escape the pits and dark corners of our minds except by His help.

remember the speech of Allah when He, سبحانه وتعالى said:

‘ Allah does not burden a soul with except [with that within] its capacity’

and remember the hadith of the prophet ﷺ when he said:

‘…. Recognize and acknowledge Allah in times of ease and prosperity, and He will remember you in times of adversity. And know that what has passed you by [and you have failed to attain] was not going to befall you, and what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and hardship with ease.’

remember that you have precious moments in your fingertips, waiting to be benefitted from. like today. a time to make plenty of dua, to repent, to forgive and make amends, to reach out, to start on a fresh crisp page.

have good thoughts of Allah, repent, make duā, and turn over that page.

don’t forget: salluu ‘ala nabiyy

"...Be mindful of Allah, you will find Him before you. Get to know Allah in prosperity and He will know you in adversity. Know that what has passed you by was not going to befall you; and that what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and ease with hardship."
