An organization that sends volunteers from Canada โ and other parts of the world โ to work on Israeli military bases is facing a renewed legal challenge, alleging its recruiting efforts violate a federal law against inciting Canadians to join a foreign army.
The non-profit group Sar-El says it has recruited more than 40,000 volunteers from over 30 countries since the Israel-Hamas war broke out last year โ to provide logistical support to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), such as packing supplies and cleaning and repairing equipment.
Radio-Canada tried for several weeks to speak with representatives from Sar-El in Israel and in Canada but they didn't respond to several interview requests.
An information session for would-be volunteers was organized in Ottawa on Sept. 26. Radio-Canada tried to attend, but organizers refused any media presence.
Sue Potechin, from the Soloway Jewish Community Centre where the session took place, is listed as the contact person to register for it.

The city is afflicted by the genocidal war, and we are sending out a distress call to save what can be saved in the face of the humanitarian disaster.
We have become without food, without water, without hospitals, without first aid, without civil defense, without doctors, without services, and without communications.

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley denounced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for quoting the Bible to justify Israel's military onslaught in Gaza, as well as its attacks on Lebanon, Iran and Yemen.
Netanyahu made his remarks at the 79th United Nations General Assembly session September. Since then, Israel has also struck Iraq.
Mottley affirmed her country's support for Palestine.
'[Barbados] took the step this year of recognising and establishing diplomatic relations with the state of Palestine in spite of having supported a two-state solution since 1969,' she said, adding, 'We did this because it is clear to us that the state and people of Palestineโhuman beingsโare entitled to full recognition by integration into and support from the international community. The charter does not say 'we the people with the exception of any one group from any one part of the world.''
