Commander Hassan Salama was assigned by the Commander-in-Chief Abu Khaled to plan the operation. The Mawasi area of Khan Yunis was chosen because of the presence of vital occupation targets in that area.
Commander Hassan recruited a group of resistance fighters to monitor targets in that area. The target was a bus carrying occupation soldiers.
The date for carrying out the operation was set after knowing the day on which the bus would arrive.
The preparation phase began, during which Commander Hassan brought in the explosives that would be used to carry out the operation. Commander Hassan brought in enough explosives for other operations,
knowing that the occupation would impose a ban after carrying out the operation and it would be difficult to provide them.
The martyr Muawiya Ruqa was chosen to carry out the operation.
Muawiya's brother Ayman was one of the wanted men whom Hassan knew and who was involved in the Sa'iqa group that Commander Hassan was responsible for.
However, Commander Abu Khaled initially refused to have Muawiya be the one to carry out the operation,
taking into consideration Muawiya's family situation and the presence of a wanted brother.
Abu Khaled asked Hassan to convince him, but Muawiya was very insisted
In the end, the two leaders, Abu Khaled and Hassan Salama, agreed to his request.
After preparing and Commander Abu Khaled's approval of the operation plan,
the martyr Muawiyah set off towards the target,
but what happened was that a patrol came before the bus, which made Muawiyah carry out the operation in the middle of this patrol.
The operation led to the injury of a number of occupation soldiers and the martyrdom of Muawiyah.
After the operation, the Palestinian Authority went crazy and launched a campaign of arrests.
The search for engineer Yahya Ayyash and commander Abu Khaled intensified.
Their pictures were distributed at various checkpoints, and the Authority raided the homes of those believed to have a connection to both of them
