🔴 Press Statement issued by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas):

We condemn the campaign of incitement and deliberate distortion that journalist Laith Jaar, Al Jazeera correspondent in the West Bank, is being subjected to. We also condemn his physical assault by a member of the security forces of the Authority, and then his arrest and detention while he was filing a complaint against the member who assaulted him.

While we condemn these unacceptable practices against journalist Jaar, we consider that these behaviors threaten the lives of journalists, restrict them, and prevent them from practicing their work and fulfilling their mission, especially in light of the sensitive field circumstances that the West Bank is going through and the escalating Zionist aggression it is being subjected to.

We demand that the leadership of the Authority stop its security forces from journalists, hold the attackers accountable to ensure that no assault is repeated, and work to provide a safe environment for journalistic work, and ensure the safety of journalists and prevent them from being exposed or pursued.

We call for an end to the incitement campaign against all journalists and activists, and to focus efforts against the occupation and its ongoing crimes against our people and our land.
