The prisoner exchange deal between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Israeli occupation in 2011, or the Shalit deal or the Wafa al-Ahrar deal, as the Palestinians call it. Israel calls it the closing of time. It is considered one of the largest Arab-Israeli prisoner exchanges. It was special because the Palestinians were able to keep the Israeli soldier captive for about 5 years despite Israel fighting two wars on the Gaza Strip. The deal included Israel releasing 1,027 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Hamas releasing the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. This deal was announced on October 11, 2011, with Egyptian mediation. This deal is the first in the history of the Palestinian issue in which the process of captivity, detention and negotiation took place within the land of Palestine
It is the same deal with which Commander Yahya Sinwar was released from Israeli prisons
