Maryam Hassanein Resigns: A Muslim-American political appointee from the Department of the Interior has stepped down, condemning Israel’s genocide in Gaza
and accusing the administration of dehumanizing Muslims and Arabs.

"As a Muslim American, I cannot continue working for an administration that disregards its diverse staff's concerns by supporting and enabling Israel's actions in Gaza, which I see as genocide against Palestinians," she said.

🔹 First Muslim-American Resignation: According to the Institute for Middle East Understanding, Hassanein is the first Muslim-American to resign in protest of the administration's stance on Gaza.

🔹 Other Resignations: Not alone in her protest, Hassanein follows other notable resignations:

⁃ Josh Paul: Former foreign service officer overseeing US weapons deliveries to Israel, criticized the lack of oversight and rapid escalation of support.

⁃ Lily Greenberg Call: Resigned in May.

⁃ Tariq Habash: Palestinian-American, resigned from the Department of Education in January.

The administration's unwavering support for “Israel” amidst calls for justice is increasingly challenged from within.
