South Africa 🇿🇦 : UWC to Immediately Disengage from “Israeli” Academic Institutions 📢

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) has announced a bold move to immediately disengage from “Israeli” academic institutions, reaffirming its solidarity with Palestine.

🔹 Academic Disengagement: UWC fully supports the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI).

🔹 Strengthening Ties with Palestine: UWC aims to enhance connections with Palestinian scholars and students, and support the rebuilding of higher education in Gaza.

🔹 Investment Transparency: UWC will disclose all investments in “Israeli” products and companies and commit to divesting from them.

🔹 National Advocacy: UWC will push for South African universities to adopt full academic disengagement from “Israel”.

This decision is a unified stand by the UWC Council, Senate, Convocation, and SRC to support Palestine and advocate for justice and human rights. Meanwhile, Stellenbosch University rejected a similar motion, highlighting the divide in South African academic institutions' stances.
