Shields were placed in Nahariya today

In Nahariya, as in other cities in Israel, there is a lack of shelters and protected spaces. Because of this, the municipality of Nahariya, since the outbreak of the war, has been working to train private shared shelters and expand the protected areas in the city, Haifa, for example, among other things, is considering measures to use the Carmel stations, underground parking lots and shelters located in schools and which have been approved for this purpose by the Home Front Command and will be opened to the public when needed.
The municipality's request to purchase mortars, which are used in the north of the country and in the south, was previously rejected by the Home Front Command, as they respond to mortars and short-range missiles, but not to the long-range missiles that threaten Haifa.

The Home Front Command recently completed the development of a new model of shields that includes top doors that respond to the threat scenarios to the north.
In this framework, Haifa is the first city in Israel where the new safety nets were placed.
The shields were placed in places selected for this purpose by representatives of the Home Front Command and Haifa Municipality

It should be emphasized that the shelters are designed to provide an answer to passers-by who are in open areas where there are no other protection options, and are not intended to provide a response to residents who are in their homes and cannot reach the shelter during the 60 second warning time
