Testimony from an IOF Soldier about rules of engagement, soldier behavior, and white phosphorus in Gaza in 2009
-What bothered you most about this operation?
Bothered me? Many things. Firstly, all that destruction. All that fire at innocents.
This shock of realizing with whom I'm in this together. My mates, really, and that's how they're behaving. It was simply amazing. Inconceivable. The price of all the draft dodging. You have all the radical lefties who don't enlist for some reason or another, or stay close to home, and this is what your combat units look like.
-What disappointed you in the guys who were there with you? They're still your pals.
They're my pals, because there's no other way, I have to be friends with them.
I don't have much choice. I live with them. But the hatred, and the joy of killing, no... "I killed a terrorist, whoa... We blew his head off..."
-So the atmosphere there was laid back, no pressure, no reservations?
There was nothing to hold the men back?
When your company commander and
battalion commander tell you, "Go on, fire!" the soldiers will not hold back. They are waiting for this day, the fun of shooting and feeling all that power in your hands.
-You were feeling it?
The way you feel with your finger on the trigger, where in one slight pull you can take down half a building. So yes, you feel it.
-So you come back very disappointed?
Very. But I didn't have any other
expectations. I don't kid myself. It's your army, after all. At the end of the day it's 60 nineteen-twenty year olds for whom vulgarity and violence is a way of life. It's not... There's nothing to hold you back. I wasn't too surprised.

โWe must work together in the opposition to overthrow the Netanyahu government - it is a dysfunctional, crazy government that is engaged in internal conflicts and is incapable of doing anything. It does not care about the south or the north.โ

General Claudio Graziano, the chairman of Italian state-controlled shipbuilder Fincantieri since 2022, has been found dead at home.
The cause of death is not yet known, some media report he committed suicide. General Graziano served as Chairman of the European Union Military Committee and from 2015 to 2018 was Chief of Defence Staff of the Italian Armed Forces. He also served in UNIFIL (2007-2010).
Fincantieri is the largest shipbuilder in Europe and the second-largest company in the Italian military-industrial complex, after Leonardo. It's a multinational company in which the state has retained a controlling stake.
Leonardo and Fincantieri account for between 80 and 90% of the turnover of the military sector in Italy. An important part of their production is carried out abroad: for Leonardo in the US, UK, Poland and Israel, for Fincantieri in the US.
Fincantieri has over 20,000 employees worldwide, nearly half of them in Italy.
Italy has increased its military expenditure for the year 2024, which for the first time exceeds 29 billion euros (29,161 million to be precise), with an increase of no less than 1,438 million euros (+5.1% compared to 2023), which follows an increase of around 1.8 billion already realised between 2022 and 2023. All in all, the defence budget will increase by around 12.5% in two years.
