Bloomberg:

Colombia’s trade ministry is calling for a restriction on coal sales to Israel in the latest bid to isolate the Jewish state as the death toll rises in its Gaza campaign.

The ministry made the recommendation to “limit” shipments of the fuel to a committee that rules on tariffs and foreign trade, according to an internal document.

The trade ministry said the coal restrictions were intended to “help end the armed conflict”, and should stay in place until it has ended. Alabama-based Drummond Company Inc. and a Colombian subsidiary of Glencore Plc are the only two suppliers.

As the genocide in Gaza advances, attention is turning to the companies whose technologies may be facilitating Israel’s daily atrocities, with US-based Palantir Technologies among them.

Companies like Palantir Technologies, led by CEO Alex Karp, have been implicated in enabling some of these atrocities. Initially funded by the CIA’s venture capital arm, In-Q-Tel, Palantir’s tech products have become integral to numerous US government agencies, including the FBI, Department of Defense, and various police departments.

This deep entanglement with US intelligence and military bodies paved the way for Palantir’s strategic alignment with Israel.

The tech giant’s involvement in Israel predates its formal agreements by many years. The company established an office in Tel Aviv in 2015, strategically located overlooking Rothschild Boulevard on one side and Yehuda Halevy Street on the other.

This location underscores the company’s deep integration into the Israeli tech ecosystem. Karp himself highlighted Palantir’s strong ties to Israel in a December 2023 interview on Fox Business, stating, “We are very well known in Israel. Israel appreciates our product.”

Britain’s business secretary wants to strike a new trade deal with Israel amid its brutal onslaught on Gaza.

The UK government, led by business secretary Kemi Badenoch, has been trying to finalise a new trade agreement with Israel throughout its invasion of Gaza.


The latest – and fifth – round of negotiations between officials of the two countries began on 8 April. That was just seven days after three British aid workers were killed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in Gaza.


The talks on a free trade agreement (FTA) continued even as UN agencies reported over 33,000 Palestinians had been killed by Israel and the Israeli government announced a date had been set for invading Rafah.


These negotiations were hosted by the UK, with a delegation of Israeli officials travelling to London for in-person discussions.

According to Axios, the UAE's foreign minister and a senior adviser to the Palestinian president clashed during a meeting on Israel's war on Gaza on 29 April in Riyadh.

Hussein al-Sheikh, a deputy to President Mahmoud Abbas, said the Palestinian Authority (PA) was taking steps to conduct reforms and create a new government but was not receiving enough support from the US and Arab countries.

Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan rejected this claim, saying he had seen little reform in the PA, the sources said.

Two sources reported that the foreign minister called the Palestinian leadership "Ali Baba and the 40 thieves" and "useless", adding that "replacing them with one another will only lead to the same result".
