🔴The story of Ibrahim Al-Ra'ii, a Palestinian hostage in Israeli concentration camps told by Abboud Hamayel, a Palestinian writer, analyst and lecturer

🔴When Ibrahim Al-Ra'ii, a Palestinian prisoner hostage, was killed by his Israeli interrogators, a quote about his experience during interrogations and prisons became a staple in the narrative of Palestinian sumud (steadfastness) in prisons. One story reads:

Ibrahim (to the Shabak interrogator): Have you ever interrogated a table? I am a table now. Go interrogate a table. If it talks back to you, come to me and you’ll find that I have become a mountain.

The Associated Press today conveyed that Israel acknowledges the killing (it called them deaths) of over 36 Palestinians within its makeshift prison centers, established to confine and torture Palestinians from Gaza. The mechanisms of torture, neglect, enforced silence, and systematic humiliation are intrinsic to Israel's carceral practices.

Ibrahim met his demise during interrogation torture, subjected to a lethal technique of violent shaking, isolation and more than 11 months of interrogation torture. Throughout its history, Israel various techniques of torture behind closed doors, in dungeons, and secluded places. It was meant both to happen, yet to remain invisible. Hidden from view, yet well-known to Palestinians.

Stories coming out of prisons today play the same role, to sustain the regime of terror Palestinians live under. "This is what we can do to you", and "the sky of what we can do is not even the limit". Ibrahim, however, was also killed because he was defiant, because he became a table, a mountain, a body without a tongue.

In his will, he writes;

I perceived them as dwarfs, while I towered as a giant; their screams pierced the air as I maintained an unyielding calm. In their desperate attempts to bargain, they revealed themselves as fools, incapable of distinguishing between the rigidity of obstinacy and the integrity of principles—an absurdity that elicited my laughter. It was not I who succumbed, but they who crumbled under the unbearable weight of their own misery and fatigue. As they fell, I remained steadfast, ascending ever higher, embodying a relentless rise beyond their depleted reach.

Nothing encapsulates this historic moment better than Ibrahim's words. The descent of Israel into forms of pure horror. The frustration and misery with a sisyphean task that accumulates frustration among Israel's military leaders.

We might imagine that having extinguished Ibrahim’s life, the interrogators smirked, reveling in their dominion over a Palestinian, who was also a fighter. This smirk mirrors the one etched on soldiers' faces as they reduce universities to rubble, obliterate schools, devastate hospitals, and unleash bombs upon tent cities. Yet, between the smirk and genuine laughter lies an unbridgeable chasm, a space beyond their depleted reach.

❌I carried many martyrs and wounded, but when I saw this child with her dismembered body, I lost all my strength, I wasn't able to carry her, I was tired and my heart ached.

When I carried her, I felt as I was holding the whole world in my hands.

I can't understand how you see these beheaded children and you don't change anything, how you can continue your life!!

Does seeing them from the phone make it easy for you? Do you have to see them with your eyes in front of you to feel them?

How long will we bear it? I swear to God, I can no longer bear this.

We have retrieved 70 dead bodies and a large number of injured as a result of the recent Israeli offensive in Jabalia.

We are not equipped to carry out field work during the war due to a significant shortage of equipment and machinery.

A large number of the bodies of the martyrs are still under the rubble, and we are trying to reach them to identify them.
