As the US has conditioned its defense agreement (against Iran) with Saudi Arabia on the latter's normalization with Israel, Saudis are accelerating their rapprochement with Iran for such defense agreement to become unnecessary and remove one of the last pressure cards the US has on the kingdom.

Once Iran joins the ranks of an economic union with the gulf nations, the normalization with Israel will outweigh the cost of turning the populations against their regimes.
