An American-Israeli journalist exposes her people's interpretations of the American university movement.

Orly Azoulay wrote in Yedioth today:

Therefore, when universities are abuzz with protests against Israel, against the ongoing occupation and against hunger in Gaza, there are those in Israel who find it appropriate to present this as a mysterious wave of anti-Semitism. But it's not like that."

"Here and there, usually on the sidelines of these protests, chants are heard such as 'Kill the Jews' or 'Burn Tel Aviv'. Even among us there are those who call 'Death to the Arabs' and 'Your village burns,'"

On every side there are parties that do not sleep, and focusing on them misses the important aspect that calls for self-searching.”

“University protest leaders are expressing their criticism of Israel’s actions and its long-standing greed. This is a protest against Israel’s policies, not against Jews in any way.”

Among the demonstrators were large groups of Jews, descendants and great-grandchildren of Jews who demonstrated in the 1960s to help blacks in the United States obtain their rights. They marched side by side with Martin Luther King, who shook the world when he read “I Have a Dream.”

Even today, the descendants of those who were victims of injustice in the past protest what they consider to be an injustice done in their name to another nation.”

The matter does not require an explanation, but rather a change of course. In Israel, demonstrations are not viewed properly because they do not always appear that way

And because it's easier not to see it. The same applies to the children killed in Gaza, the hunger, the medicine shortages, and the devastation that has made the Strip largely uninhabitable.”
