The US and Britain have detonated a wider war in the Middle East and are threatening even more horrific imperialist slaughter. On Monday Tory defence secretary Grant Shapps said Britain was considering air strikes and other “direct action” against the "Houthi" group in Yemen.
But the threats of imperialist war haven’t humbled the "Houthis." Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi, the leader of the group, has threatened to target US battleships in response to any attack against Yemen. “We will not stand idly by if the Americans have a tendency to escalate and commit foolishness by targeting our country,” al-Houthi said in a speech last week.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: Nine Syrian soldiers and gunmen killed in attack by Islamic State.
Nine members of the regime forces and armed loyalists were killed in a surprise attack carried out by Islamic State personnel on military positions in the deep desert in eastern Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Tuesday.
The observatory noted that "cells affiliated with the organization executed a surprise attack on Monday night, targeting positions of the regime forces and National Defence elements in the western countryside of Deir al-Zor, resulting in the killing of nine and the injury of more than twenty others."

Strategic Analysis Australia Director Michael Shoebridge says the real reason Australia didn’t send a ship to the Red Sea is because they don’t have one which was “suitable.”
“We’ve heard all kinds of excuses from the government about why they are not sending a warship,” Mr Shoebridge told Sky News Senior Reporter Caroline Marcus.
“The Government doesn’t want to admit they don’t have a suitable ship to send."
Australia declined a request from the US to send a warship to the Red Sea to defend the key trade route from missile attacks by Yemen’s Houthis in December – saying their own trade routes, primarily the South China Sea, were a priority.
