🔴Postpartum depression in mothers in Gaza

Postpartum depression, a severe, long-lasting form of depression in new mothers is affecting Palestinian mothers in Gaza

According to UNICEF, there are 180 births every day in Gaza.

These births happen without access to any kind of reasonable healthcare facilities as Israel has destroyed Gaza’s health sector

A new birth causes considerable pain, stress and hardship and is a tremendous strain on mothers and parents especially when the world around them lies in rubble.

In Gaza there are barely any anesthetics or painkillers, maternity kits or even toys.

There is no aftercare, the living conditions are inadequate and there's an inability to provide basic necessities like clothing, milk formula and diapers for the newborn, all these increase the severity and duration of postpartum depression

Palestinian mothers in Gaza find themselves incapable of providing for the immediate or future needs of their newborns, placing them in a cycle of despair, anxiety and powerlessness.

Most importantly PPD not only affects the mother’s health but also that of the baby, by reducing their overall physical, social, cognitive and emotional health

UNICEF's Tess Ingram said recently, "It’s an absolutely nightmarish place to be a pregnant woman, beyond words, and it is a hellish environment to be born into."
