Part 2: The Srebrenica Genocide

In 1992, Serbian forces targeted Srebrenica in a campaign to seize control of a block of territory in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina. To do so, they believed, required the expulsion of the territory’s Muslim Bosniak inhabitants.

In March 1995 Radovan Karadžić, president of the self-declared autonomous Republika Srpska (Bosnian Serb Republic), directed his military forces to “create an unbearable situation of total insecurity with no hope of further survival or life for the inhabitants of Srebrenica.”

By May a cordon of Serbian soldiers had imposed an embargo on food and other supplies that provoked most of the town to flee the area.

In late June, after some skirmishes with the few Bosniak fighters, the Serbian forces commander formally ordered the operation, code-named Krivaja 95, that culminated in the genocide.

In July 1995, Serbian forces, trained and armed by Israel, invaded the town of Srebrenica, in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the following few horrific days, more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim boys and men were taken to places of detention, abused, tortured and then executed and buried in mass graves.

Serbian forces ethnically-cleansed 250,000+ Muslims in total across Croatia and Bosnia. Tens of thousands others were wounded, starved, and incarcerated in concentration camps. Additionally, women were mass raped.

Many of those responsible for the genocide fled to Israel, where they were granted Israeli citizenship to evade arrest and prosecution for their crimes against humanity

Beit Hanoun is the northernmost city in Gaza. It was the first city to be attacked during this genocide , and 95% of the city is now just rubble. The city once consisted of 70,000 citizens, but now only a couple of hundred are sheltering in the schools. Israeli occupation forces continue to attack the schools and residents, forcing them to evacuate. They are arresting young and old people, forcing women to remove their hijabs, confiscating lands, and destroying homes.


Today, they are continuing with shelling, incursions, and heavy gunfire without any warnings. What Beit Hanoun is going through is a genocide of all forms of life. The occupation sends messages to the residents that there is no return for them to Beit Hanoun.

Theirs a clear message they are trying to empty the city of any residents.
