Al Jazeera reports that UK's Rishi Sunak has informed Netanyahu that the UK is preparing to declare that Israel has been violating international law.

The European Conservative has an interesting piece on Europe and its foreign drone dependence.

Recent EU attempts to fund local drone production were derailed due to national infighting, project delays, and bureaucracy. Europe is seen as failing to develop its own native drone manufacturing industry, instead relying on such producers as Turkey or China—or Israel.

Relations between Brussels and Israel are at a low point over Gaza. While only 10 out of 27 EU states recognize Palestine as a state, support for Palestinians in Gaza is widespread. Having to rely on Israeli drones for the next decade would force pro-Palestinian EU countries to temper their criticism of Israel.

Worryingly for Europe, Turkey has become a world leader in drones. The low-cost technology is also currently used by Iran-backed Houthi militias to attack Western shipping in the Red Sea.

It sure explains a lot of things in this “war”.

The Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT)’s Media Spokesperson Emily Apple said, "This government is complicit in the murder of UK aid workers in Gaza. It has had every opportunity to impose an arms embargo and has refused to do so."

She added, "While our thoughts are with the families and friends of the aid workers killed, they are also with the families and friends of the tens of thousands of Palestinians who have been killed by Israel."

Since 2015, the UK has licensed £487m worth of weapons to Israel. However, this does not include equipment exported via open licences. In particular, 15% of the value of every US-made F-35 combat aircraft, which Israel uses to bomb Gaza, is made in the UK.

Exports for UK-made F35 components are covered by an open licence with no limit on the quantity or value of exports. CAAT conservatively estimates that the work on the 36 F-35s exported to Israel up to 2023 has been worth at least £368m to the UK arms industry.

CAAT's Emily Apple said, "Not only is our government complicit in genocide, it knows it. Time and again David Cameron and Foreign Office ministers have refused to answer direct questions on the legal advice they’ve received".

Although it is impossible to miss that public opinion cared more about 6 white lives lost than tens of thousands of Palestinians’, the fact that 3 of them were British and there has been such an uproar makes criminal prosecution more likely to happen. It also puts the UK government under a lot of additional pressure.

I also hope the families will sue for compensation.
