Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor released a new investigation today documenting the Israeli army's targeting of the civilian Al-Aweini family in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, on 11 Feb 2024.
An Israeli drone struck family home near Nasser Medical Complex w/o warning critically injured Abdullah (29) in abdomen.
Abdullahs Father Ibrahim (56) shot by quadcopter drone using frag munitions while trying to save the life of his son.
Brothers Husam (27), Saad (22), Hassan (33), Anas (18) tried to carry Abdullah to hospital snipers on rooftops shot Husam & Saad; they fell near hospital wall & were shot again while crawling.
3 brothers (Abdullah, Husam, Saad) were ruthlessly killed; their bodies left in street for days, unreachable due to ongoing sniper fire preventing rescue/burial.
Their Mother Tahani (55) shot in leg by sniper while trying to reach sons; witnessed bodies through wall openings but couldn't help due to impacted mobility.
Following the horrific incident: family members (incl. father & surviving sons) were arrested, tortured (e.g. father’s leg fractured) by the Israeli army.
All of the family were eventually released; no military targets were found in the area the family were targeted. (geospatial analysis, satellite imagery, witness testimonies confirm purely civilian site).
Violations: breach of Geneva Conventions Arts 51/52; example of genocide elements per 1948 Convention Art II.
