Access Now has an interesting report on Jordan and its widespread use of Pegasus, an Israeli spyware. They did forensic analysis with the help of the Citizen Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International’s Security Lab, and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).

Their joint forensic investigation found traces of Pegasus spyware on the mobile devices of 30 activists, journalists, lawyers, and civil society members and further work by Human Rights Watch (HRW), Amnesty International’s Security Lab, and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) identified five more Pegasus victims.

Their targets were NGO representatives, human rights lawyers, journalists, activists and politicians.

Surveillance technologies and cyberweapons such as NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware are used to target human rights defenders and journalists, to intimidate and dissuade them from their work, to infiltrate their networks, and to gather information for use against other targets.

It’s the same spyware Bloomberg reported to having been used by the IDF to track people in Gaza.
Amnesty International has developed a toolkit called MVT to detect Pegasus on your phone.
