In 1994, the Qassam Brigades captured the Israeli soldier Nachshon Wachsman. The capture operation was planned by Muhammad al-Deif, Yahya Ayyash and Saad al-Arabid.
Their demands were the release of Palestinian hostages in Israeli prisons, including 30 Lebanese hostages from the ranks of Hezbollah.
