A study by the Applied Research Institute -ARIJ highlighted the severe consequences of checkpoints on Palestinian economy, over six months of data collection in 2018.

The study found that Palestinians lose around 60 million working hours annually, costing estimated $270 million, while the additional consumption of 80 million liters of fuel each year incurs $135 million in expenses and results in 196,000 tons of CO2 emissions.

Researchers installed 70 GPS tracking devices on various Palestinian vehicles, which recorded location, time, and speed every 10 seconds. This method generated over 18 million data points, enabling precise analysis of the time and economic impact of delays at checkpoints.
