The protests have been swelling despite it being nearly midnight in Egypt.

Some Egyptian outlets are claiming protests in Cairo are old footage, being spread by "the enemy" to "provoke people."

This, however, is not true. The protests in Cairo right now are actually happening.

Local Egyptian media report protests due to “economic situation, the suppression of freedoms, and government corruption.”

Local Cairo outlet, Diwan, claims the protests are definitely real but at the moment remain small. However, Diwan says a lot of the videos being circulated are old.
