UK Building costs jump as Red Sea disruption pushes up shipping prices
Independent UK |
Construction firms have seen the first jump in building costs since last autumn as Red Sea disruption sent shipping prices higher, according to a report from the latest S&P Global/CIPS construction purchasing managers' index (PI).
This is mostly affecting imports from Asia, it said.
“Higher prices paid for imported items contributed to a rise in overall cost burdens for the first time since last September”
- Tim Moore, S&P Global

Israeli Settlers Left Gaza in 2005. They Now See a Chance to Return.
A group of Israelis hoping to live in Gaza at the war’s end has already published maps imagining Jewish-majority towns dotting the territory.
Within Israel, a powerful lobby is trying to rally support for Jewish settlements there.
“The minute the war is over, we’ll build our homes there,” said Yair Cohen, 23, a reserve soldier, who said his family was evicted from Gaza in 2005. “The question isn’t whether we will return when the fighting is over, but if there will be a Gaza.”
The settlers’ dream of Israelis returning to Gaza would mean replacing the Palestinians currently living there, and while the settler movement is divided on how to do that, some extremist settlers advocate deportation.

War with Hezbollah to be deadliest for 'Israel' in it’s entire history : 130-page report
Calcalist |
An Israeli report underlines that the Israeli occupation has no chance in the face of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon as the latter's capabilities would rapidly overwhelm "Tel Aviv".
The potential war between the Israeli occupation and Lebanon's Hezbollah holds a grim reality for the Israeli occupation, as it would be the most devastating war it has gone through since its inception, as per a three-year study conducted by hundreds of experts at the Counter-Terrorism Policy Institute at Reichman University.

Israel tests lasers that can shoot down incoming rockets
The project is the invention of Dr Danny Gold, the scientist behind the Iron Dome air-defence system
“This is where the brains sit, close to the clouds,” said our escort, guiding us through layers of security and up in the lift to Dr Gold’s office on the top floor of Israel’s ministry of defence, with expansive views across Tel Aviv.
Dr Gold, a brigadier general who heads up Israel’s Defense Research and Development Directorate inside the defence ministry, said the new laser had been “played with” during the ongoing conflict with Hamas.
The Iron Dome, he explains, is only a part of the shield that envelopes occupied Palestine
Above it sits David’s Sling, designed to knock out enemy aircraft and medium- to long-range rockets such as cruise missiles fired from up to 200 miles away.
Above that are Arrow 2 and Arrow 3, offering protection from ballistic missiles fired at the country.
Arrow 3 was deployed successfully for the first time back in November, intercepting a missile fired at Israel by AnsarAllah in Yemen.
The new defence system is Iron Beam. “Now we add a new dimension. It is a laser,” said Dr Gold.
With a war looming in the north and with 160,000 Hezbollah rockets pointed in the direction of Tel Aviv, Israel’s air defences could soon be tested like never before.
On a screen projected in his office, Dr Gold demonstrates the Iron Beam playing a video of a test run. It shows a drone taking off and the Iron Beam laser being pointed at the target. A beam of light is fired at the drone.
“It was a very good test,” he said. “We got authorisation one year ago to go to full-scale development and bring the system to the field. We will finish the job in numerous years... I can’t tell you exactly when. And once in a while we play with the current toolkit that we have.
If we have the opportunity of people shooting at us, we can expand the testing.”
