A serious incident took place in the Batroun area yesterday morning, and the Lebanese security services (army and internal security forces) are investigating it.

A special force of more than 25 soldiers (sailors and divers) carried out a landing operation on the Batroun beach, and moved with all their weapons and equipment to a chalet near the beach, where they kidnapped a Lebanese person who was alone in the area, took him to the beach, and left by speedboats into the open sea.

Suspicion, of course, indicates that the operation was carried out by an Israeli special force (Shayetet 13 or Sayeret Matkal).

It is natural, according to military officials, that this operation was carried out in some coordination with the German Navy operating within the UNIFIL forces, to ensure that the Lebanese Navy (active in the region to combat smuggling to Europe) would not be able to control the operation.
