Q.4 (a)

Performance: This is the most common way to discharge a contract. When a party performs its obligations under the contract, it is considered to have fulfilled its contractual duties. For example, if a buyer purchases a product from a seller, the buyer has discharged their obligations under the contract by paying for the product and taking possession of it.

Mutual Agreement: A contract can be discharged through a mutual agreement between the parties. This can be done by amending the original contract or by entering into a new agreement that discharges the original contract. For example, a company may agree to cancel a contract with a supplier and enter into a new agreement with a different supplier.

Release: A contract can be discharged through a release, which is an agreement between the parties to release each other from their obligations under the contract. This can be done in writing or orally, and it is usually accompanied by consideration (something of value) such as payment or performance. For example, a company may agree to release a former employee from their obligations under an employment contract in exchange for the employee's agreement to return company property and not to solicit customers.
Q.4 (b)

i) Void Contract: A void contract is one that is null and void from the very beginning. It is considered a non-existent contract, and neither party has any legal obligation to perform under it. This can happen when the contract is contrary to public policy, violates a law, or is impossible to perform. For example, a contract that involves illegal activities, such as selling drugs, would be considered a void contract.

ii) Voidable Contract: A voidable contract is one that is valid but can be avoided by one or both parties. This means that the contract can be rescinded (canceled) or terminated, usually due to a mistake, fraud, or misrepresentation. In such cases, the party who wants to avoid the contract can do so by giving notice to the other party and obtaining a court order. For example, if one party was deceived or misled into signing the contract, they may be able to void the contract.

iii) Misrepresentation: A misrepresentation is a false statement of fact that induces another party to enter into a contract. It is an act of deceit or fraud, and it can render the contract invalid. Misrepresentation can be either innocent or fraudulent. An innocent misrepresentation occurs when one party makes a false statement without intending to deceive, while a fraudulent misrepresentation occurs when one party makes a false statement with the intention of deceiving the other party. For example, if a seller tells a buyer that a product is new when it's actually used, that's a misrepresentation.

iv) Consideration: Consideration is the essential element in a contract that makes it enforceable. It is something of value given by one party to another in exchange for something else of value. In other words, consideration is the quid pro quo (something for something) that induces parties to enter into a contract. Consideration can take many forms, such as money, goods, services, or promises. For example, if a company pays $10,000 to an employee in exchange for their services, the $10,000 is consideration for the employee's work.
Q.5 (a)

Taxation is the process by which a government levies a financial charge, or tax, on its citizens, businesses, and other entities. The revenue generated from taxes is used to fund public goods and services, such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, defense, and social welfare programs.

Here are a few common types of taxes:

Income Tax: A tax on an individual's or business's income, including wages, salaries, interest, dividends, and capital gains. Income tax is typically levied by the national government.

Sales Tax: A tax on the sale of goods and services, collected by the retailer or vendor at the point of sale. Sales tax is typically levied by state or local governments.
Value-Added Tax (VAT): A tax on the value added to a product or service at each stage of production and distribution. VAT is commonly used in Europe.

Property Tax: A tax on real estate, such as land, buildings, and other property. Property tax is typically levied by local governments.
Q.5

1. Funding Public Goods and Services: Governments use taxes to fund public goods and services that benefit society as a whole. These include things like:
- Infrastructure: roads, bridges, airports, and public transportation
- Education: public schools, universities, and vocational training
- Healthcare: public hospitals, clinics, and healthcare programs

2. Redistributing Income: Taxes can be used to redistribute income from the wealthy to the poor or from one group to another. For example:
-Progressive taxation: higher tax rates for higher-income individuals or corporations
-Tax credits: targeted subsidies to low-income individuals or families
-Social welfare programs: such as Medicaid, food stamps, or housing assistance

3. Stabilizing the Economy: Governments use taxes to help stabilize the economy by:
-Reducing inflation: by increasing taxes on goods and services that are driving inflation
-Reducing government spending: by decreasing taxes during economic downturns to increase consumer spending and boost the economy
-Encouraging savings: by offering tax incentives for saving and investing

4. Regulating Economic Activity: Governments use taxes to regulate economic activity and influence behavior. For example:
-Taxing harmful activities: such as tobacco or alcohol consumption
-Taxing pollution: such as carbon emissions or other environmental pollutants
-Encouraging sustainable practices: such as tax incentives for renewable energy or electric vehicles
Q.8 (a)

Cost Savings: Internal recruitment can save the company a significant amount of money compared to external recruitment. This is because internal recruitment eliminates the need to advertise job openings, conduct interviews, and pay for agency fees. Additionally, the company may already have a pool of qualified candidates who can be promoted or transferred to fill the vacant position.

Faster Time-to-Hire: Internal recruitment can be faster than external recruitment because the company already has a pool of qualified candidates who are familiar with the company culture and policies. This can lead to a faster time-to-hire and a quicker return on investment for the company.

Knowledge Retention: Internal recruitment helps to retain valuable knowledge and skills within the organization. When an employee is promoted or transferred to a new role, they bring their existing knowledge and experience with them, which can be beneficial for the company. This can also reduce the risk of losing valuable employees to competitors, as they will be more likely to stay with the company if they see opportunities for advancement and growth.

Additionally, internal recruitment can also help to:
- Improve employee morale and engagement
- Increase diversity and inclusion
- Reduce turnover rates
- Enhance succession planning
- Develop internal talent pipelines
- Strengthen company culture and values
Q.8 (b)

1. Improvement and Development: Performance appraisal helps to identify areas where employees need improvement and provides them with feedback and guidance to develop their skills and knowledge. This enables employees to set goals and objectives, work towards them, and receive feedback on their progress. This leads to improved job performance, increased productivity, and enhanced employee engagement.

2. Fairness and Equity: Performance appraisal ensures that employees are evaluated fairly and equitably based on their performance. It helps to identify biases and ensures that employees are not discriminated against based on factors such as race, gender, age, or disability. This leads to a sense of fairness and justice among employees, which is essential for maintaining a positive and productive work environment.

3. Accountability and Responsibility: Performance appraisal holds employees accountable for their performance and responsibilities. It sets clear expectations for what is expected of them, and provides them with a framework for measuring their success. This helps to ensure that employees take ownership of their work and are responsible for delivering results. This leads to increased accountability, improved job performance, and enhanced organizational effectiveness.

Q.1

The unit of inductance is the Henry (H).

The unit of universal gravitational constant G is N m^2 kg^-2.

This is derived from the equation for the gravitational force between two objects:

F = G * (m1 * m2) / r^2

Where:
- F is the gravitational force
- G is the gravitational constant
- m1 and m2 are the masses of the objects
- r is the distance between the objects

The unit of G can be expressed as:

G = N m^2 kg^-2

Where N is the unit of force (Newtons), m is the unit of distance (meters), and kg is the unit of mass (kilograms).
