I was watching Materialists and came across the word “dowry” and it hit me that we all know it's the property or money a bride brings to her husband at marriage but the word has such an outdated implication to it doesn't it?

It made me ponder in what contexts we still use it today. Maybe it’s confined to historical dramas? Or is it still ubiquitous in some parts of the world? Any thoughts?
