A lot of artists are bad at 𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 , and they don't even know it.

Like... 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗮𝗱.

It's easy at a glance to see if your drawing skills need beefing up. Because you can *see* it. When it comes to writing, it's disturbingly easy for folks to assume they must be good at it, because they can complain about movies they don't like. Bam! Expert.

Now maybe you're some literary prodigy but for the rest of us human-types there's Jim Butcher. (

His livejournal is the most concise, comprehensive, and damn useful crash course on writing I've ever encountered- and I've read dozens of books on the subject.

I liked it so much, I printed off a personal copy just for me to flip through as a quick reference.

If you're staring down the barrel of dedicating years of your life to meticulously bringing a graphic novel or similar work to life, do yourself a solid and spend a measly little hour or two to read those articles. You'll stand a much better chance of working for years on something that's actually worthwhile.
