nvda 2026.1 update is out.
Highlights
This release includes support for reading math content with MathCAT, which is now built-in to NVDA.
There have been several improvements to speech. Spelling and grammar errors can now be reported with a sound instead of speech when reading. You can now configure NVDA to automatically say all after successfully recognizing content, such as with Windows OCR. NVDA no longer reports the language being read as unsupported when the synthesizer supports the language but not the specific dialect. NVDA now supports 64-bit SAPI 5 voices.
Braille support has also been improved. It now continues to work when switching to a secure screen, like the sign-in screen or User Account Control dialog. NVDA messages from the local computer are now shown in braille when controlling a computer via Remote Access. Spelling and grammar errors, as well as the number of items in a list in browse mode, can now be shown in braille. Other braille bug fixes, including in Microsoft Outlook and LibreOffice Writer, have also been added.
In browse mode in web browsers, NVDA no longer treats controls with 0 width or height as invisible. This may make it possible to access previously inaccessible “screen reader only” content on some websites. Malformed links no longer prevent NVDA from reading content in Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers. The browse mode highlighter now appears on content recognition results, such as when using Windows OCR. In Microsoft Word, unassigned Quick Navigation commands to jump to references have been added. They are also now shown in the elements list.
It is now possible to view virus scan results for an add-on from the Add-on Store. For add-ons that include one, you can also view an add-on’s changelog. The reliability of background add-on updates has been improved.
A new “Privacy and Security” category has been added to NVDA’s settings dialog. The “Logging level” and “Allow NV Access to gather NVDA usage statistics” settings have been moved here from the “General” category. The settings for Screen Curtain have also been moved here from the “Vision” category. Additionally, Screen Curtain’s settings are now configuration profile independent.

Hello everyone,
When I started this platform, my goal was simple: to create a space where the blind and visually impaired community could find reliable, accessible, and up-to-date information on assistive technology. Whether it’s through our website articles, YouTube videos, or social media updates, our mission has always been to empower you.
As our community grows, so do the costs of keeping everything up and running. From website server fees and domain renewals to the tools required to produce accessible content, these expenses are currently being funded entirely out of pocket.
To keep our platform 100% free, ad-light, and accessible to everyone, we need your help. If our content has ever helped you discover a new tool, solve a tech issue, or feel more connected, please consider supporting our work.
Every little bit makes a massive difference:
If you aren't able to donate financially, you can still support us by sharing our content, liking our videos, and inviting others to join our community.
Thank you so much for your incredible support and for being a vital part of this journey. Together, we can keep breaking down barriers!

samsung has brought back google talkback from One UI 9
Samsung has released the first One UI 9 beta to Galaxy S26 phones, and with this new beta, a major accessibility-related shift has been observed. Google TalkBack is now the screen reader installed with One UI 9.
Starting with One UI 3, which was based on Android 11, Samsung had its own version of TalkBack. It was still based on Google TalkBack but maintained and updated by Samsung.
With the new One UI version, Samsung has finally decided to drop its own version and use Google’s version instead. This means that from One UI 9 onward, updates are installed through the Play Store when Google releases new versions, instead of being delivered through the Galaxy Store or bundled with One UI updates.
This change also means that the current fragmentation in TalkBack versions, caused by the One UI version installed on the device, will no longer be a problem, as new updates are provided through the Play Store to all supported Android versions.

What’s New in Google TalkBack 17
Improved handling of live updates on websites
TalkBack 17 improves how announcements work when browsing dynamic websites.
Previously, announcements coming from live regions or frequently updated sections of websites could sometimes appear in an inconsistent order. With TalkBack 17, announcements are now presented in a more logical sequence.
Critical alerts can interrupt browsing when necessary, while less urgent updates no longer constantly interrupt navigation.

Selection mode fix
TalkBack 17 also includes a bug fix related to selection mode.
Previously, starting selection mode could automatically switch the reading control to characters. With TalkBack 17, this behavior no longer occurs when selection mode is activated.
New keyboard-related hints
TalkBack 17 introduces keyboard-related hints for users who interact with TalkBack using a physical keyboard.
These hints are provided in addition to the existing touch gesture hints already available when using TalkBack with touch navigation.
Customizable braille display commands
TalkBack 17 now allows users to customize braille display commands using the keyboard of their connected braille display.
To access this feature:
• Open TalkBack settings
• Navigate to Braille display
• Open Braille display commands
This makes it possible to remap commands and create a more personalized braille workflow.
